‘Culture Change: Not Just a Fad‘

Speaker:
Linda Kirschbaum has been involved in the long term care profession for more than 30 years. Prior to assuming her role as Director of Assisted Living, Residential Care & Quality for the Oregon Health Care Association in 1998, she was a Director of Operations for a multi-service long term care campus with skilled nursing and residential care, assisted living and independent senior housing. Linda holds a nursing home license and has her assisted living administrator certificate. Her work at OHCA includes public policy, education development and training, technical assistance to members, and directing quality initiatives and programs for the association. Linda holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration and a Certificate in Gerontology from Oregon State University. Linda has been involved in the Alzheimer’s Association over the years and serves on the MOVE Steering Committee. In her spare time she enjoys her family, hiking, skiing, travel, cooking, and being active in local school issues in her community.

Linda will help us learn the latest information on culture change activities, practices and education in Oregon. The foundations of culture change are based in the principles of dignity, respect, choice, individuality, independence, and autonomy. “Culture change”, has been defined by the Pioneer Network as “a transformation anchored in values and beliefs that return control to elders and those who work closest with them.” Its ultimate vision is to create a culture of aging that is life affirming, satisfying, humane and meaningful. Culture change can transform a ‘facility’ into a ‘home’, a ‘resident’ into a ‘person’, a ‘schedule’ into a ‘choice’.”
