June 2019 SPIN Meeting: Too Much Stuff: Setting Up for Success

Topic: Too Much Stuff: Setting Up for Success provides techniques for working with people who struggle with “too much stuff.” Presenters will review hoarding disorder, how to differentiate between clutter, collecting and hoarding, co-morbidity and possible causes. They will address hoarding and squalor and animal hoarding. In conclusion, they will discuss treatment challenges, housing concerns and harm reduction approach. Resources will be provided.
George Fetzer was the Code Compliance Manager for the City of Beaverton for 16 years before retiring last year. He wrote Beaverton’s Housing Code and created Beaverton’s housing inspection service. George was responsible for responding to citizens’ complaints about hoarding situations, and he worked with many people living with hoarding behaviors. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from UC Irvine and a Paralegal Certificate from the University of San Diego.
Jill Williams earned her Masters of Art from Vermont College. She is a Clinical Service Specialist with the Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative. She organized and participated in an intensive 3-day training in 2017 with Hoarding expert, Randy Frost, PhD. She continues to learn and train others in best practices and interventions when hoarding is a presenting issue. Jill is a co-chair of the Multnomah County Hoarding Task Force.
