Topic: State Plan for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias in Oregon (SPADO) Update – In 2010, a group of advocates, caregivers, providers, researchers, policymakers, and professionals from the legal, healthcare and human services arenas gathered to form a taskforce to develop a plan to help Oregon better support people with dementia and their care partners. In 2012, the State Plan on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias in Oregon also known as SPADO was released. Please come and learn what has been accomplished, where we are at with the plan and how you can contribute.

Speaker: Jan Karlen has worked for the Department of Human Services (DHS) since 1998. In her current position as a Policy Analyst with the State Unit on Aging Jan has varied responsibilities; including coordinating and participating in several workgroups connected with the State Plan on Alzheimer’s Disease, overseeing the Family Caregiver Support Program, as well as coordinating and participating in the Oregon Partnership to Improve Dementia Care.

Speaker: Sara Kofman, Public Policy Director, Alzheimer’s Association – Oregon Chapter comes the Alzheimer’s Association with more than 10 years combined experience in health policy. Prior to joining the Alzheimer’s Association, she was the Advocacy Manager at the National Psoriasis Foundation, where she guided state and federal policy development and managed grassroots advocacy volunteers and activities.
