Topic: Cognition and Community: Thinking changes in Parkinson’s, staying social, and why it all matters discusses the symptoms of PD and their respective effects on socialization, the rationale for staying social despite the many barriers, and ways to help People with PD at different stages of the disease engage in the community in a meaningful way. Secondly, we will discuss the range of cognitive changes that people with Parkinson’s experience from mild cognitive impairment to dementia, and ways to provide support to people with a range of challenges.


Heather Balducci, LCSW, Social Worker joined the PRO team in October 2014 with experience in counseling and case management in a wide variety of settings. As PRO’s Social Worker, she now provides short term counseling and case management to people affected by PD, with a special interest in working with those newly diagnosed as they adjust to life with the disease, as well as people with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease.

Karen Anderson, Support Group Volunteer Facilitator connected with Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon in 1990s, following her husband, Roger’s diagnosis of PD in 1989. She worked in Parkinson’s advocacy on a national level for several years, and has been involved as a facilitator of the Women’s Care Partner Support group in Tigard since 2010. She was a dedicated partner and caregiver to her husband, Roger, who died in 2014
