Topic: Mental Health and Older Adults – A mental health disorder is estimated to effect 1 out of every 4 people. Our older adult population is often overlooked in this area. This presentation aims to provide education regarding statistics within our geographical area, a brief understanding of common diagnoses, as well as recommendations/tips for supporting these clients.

Speakers:

Danielle Barth is the Managing Director of Home Instead Senior Care in Hillsboro. She studied Family and Consumer Sciences at Montana State University and received her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia. Danielle is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Senior Advisor. Prior to Home Instead, Danielle worked for several years in various psychiatric units. She also serves on the board of a local non-profit, Teens Finding Hope.

Ruby Winn studied Sociology, Ethnic Studies and Spanish during her time as an undergraduate at the University of Oregon. After graduation, she immediately began work on her master’s degree in Social Work at Portland State University. During her program, she interned as a counselor and at a locked residential facility for adults experiencing severe mental illness. Ruby is the Director of Client Care with Home Instead—Hillsboro.
