Topic: Providence Milwaukie Senior Psychiatric Unit: Serving Seniors within an Integrated, Whole Person Care Model

In this presentation, the scope and service of the Senior Psychiatric Unit will be outlined. We will identify the psychiatric disorders that are treated, the referral and intake process, and some basic data and metrics. Discussion will include how stabilization and recovery are attained for seniors experiencing serious psychiatric disorders and/or dementia with behavioral disturbance. We will touch on some complex matters that arise serving this vulnerable population, challenges we have encountered during the pandemic, and a few brief case examples. A multi-sensory experience will be offered to elucidate the unique healing processes that occur on our unit. Questions and dialogue are welcome throughout the presentation.

Speaker: Maria Brignola, Program Director for the Senior Psychiatric Unit at Providence Milwaukie Hospital
