October 23rd SPIN Meeting - "Top Tips for Brain Health (at any age)" Date: Monday, October 23, 2023 Time: 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm In Person Location: Russellville Park: 20 SE 103rd Ave, Portland, OR 97216 Topic: "Top Tips for Brain Health (at any age)" As we age, there are "normal" changes in the brain, as well as "abnormal" ones, that can lead to decline in our thinking abilities. This presentation will review some of these changes, and it will focus on things that individuals can do to reduce their risk of brain/thinking problems as they age. It will also highlight some research opportunities through the Layton Aging & Alzheimer's Center. Speaker: Kevin Duff, PhD, ABPP-CN, Clinical Neuropsychologist, Layton Aging & Alzheimer's Disease Center Kevin has specialized in neuropsychology for over 20 years. He got his PH.D. in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York in Albany. He did additional training in AZ and OK before getting his first faculty position at the University of Iowa in 2003. In 2009, he joined the University of Utah's Department of Neurology as a neuropsychologist for their Alzheimer's Center. In 2022, he moved to OHSU, where he is a senior neuropsychologist at the Layton Aging & Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and a Professor in their Department of Neurology. His research has focused primarily on the early identification of cognitive decline in neuropsychiatric illnesses. Across multiple studies, he has used short-term practice effects as a marker of brain plasticity in patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment to examine if short-term changes in cognition can predict the diagnosis and prognosis of dementia. He has published over 180 peer-reviewed papers in his areas of expertise.
