Speaker Bio:
With over 20 years of experience in both hospital settings and the classroom, Helen brings a unique blend of clinical expertise and educational leadership to the field. She holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education and is a Board-Certified Gerontology Nurse. Her ability to remain calm under pressure—whether responding to medical emergencies or navigating the everyday chaos of parenting three children—has been a cornerstone of her success.
As the owner of HelloCare, Helen is on a mission to make aging more manageable and dignified, one client at a time. Outside of her professional role, she is a passionate advocate for senior care reform and a strong believer in the power of education to uplift both caregivers and those they serve.
A former Mrs. Oregon and proud daughter of Tom and Kathleen—two older adults who inspire her daily—Helen knows firsthand the importance of compassionate care. She believes that exceptional caregiving starts with a team that feels valued, supported, and appreciated.
Title: "Post Hospitalization Syndrome"
In this presentation, you will learn about Post-Hospital Syndrome (PHS)—a temporary yet serious condition that affects many older adults after a hospital stay. You’ll discover how hospitalization itself, not just the underlying illness, can lead to a decline in physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being, often resulting in readmission or loss of independence.
By the end of this session, you will:
Understand the causes and symptoms of Post-Hospital Syndrome
Recognize the unique risks hospitalization poses to older adults
Learn practical strategies to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations
Discover how to advocate for better in-hospital care to reduce harm
Gain tools to support a smooth and safe recovery after discharge
Explore how care management programs can improve outcomes and reduce rehospitalizations
Whether you're a caregiver, healthcare professional, or someone supporting older adults, this presentation will equip you with the knowledge to protect and promote long-term wellness after a hospital stay.
